The Lafant combines traditional cabinetmaking techniques with the clean lines and understated character of mid-century furniture. Its mitred corners are reinforced with mortice and tenon joinery, creating strong, elegant joints that complement the angles of the splayed oak legs.

The backing panel is made entirely from solid oak in our own workshop, rather than plywood or veneered board. Carefully assembled to complement the cabinet, it gives the piece a beautifully finished appearance while providing a secure back to the vinyl storage space.

The dividers are constructed from solid oak dowels, securely fixed in position to help keep records upright and neatly organised. Two sets of dowel dividers are included as standard, with additional dividers available on request. Please contact us for a quotation if you would like a different arrangement.

This version comes with our classic rounded and tapered legs, although other leg designs can be selected from our shop.

Prefer a simpler design? Our open-backed Lafant is also available without the backing panel or dividers, offering the same solid oak construction with a more open appearance:

Finish options

We offer two wax oil finishes, both designed to protect the oak while celebrating its natural character.

• Natural wax oil – Enhances the warm honey tones and distinctive grain of the French Oak.

• Antique wax oil – Creates a deeper, richer colour with selected grain details more prominently highlighted.

Both finishes provide a durable, water-resistant surface suitable for everyday use.

Premium French Oak

We work exclusively with premium French Oak, selected for its quality, strength and attractive grain.

France has a long history of managed oak forestry, with established practices that support the regeneration of its woodlands. Carefully managed forests produce high-quality timber that is particularly well suited to fine furniture making.

Using solid oak throughout, including the backing panel and dowel dividers, gives Lafant a reassuringly substantial construction and a consistent natural finish.
